Mind-boggling figures for a drink that is probably only accessible to the wealthiest. To taste the Salvatore's Legacy, served at The Donovan in London, you have to shell out 7,500 pounds ($10,017.92 USD). Here the alchemy created between two or more ingredients in a cocktail becomes a work of art where there is the touch of an Italian: we are talking about the star bartender, Salvatore Calabrese, known as "The Maestro", born in Maiori (Amalfi Coast) has come to be counted among the best bartenders ever.

History, Prestige and Luxury in a Glass

Calabrese's is not the most expensive drink in the world, or rather, in the United States and Japan the prices are higher than 10k$, but inside the glass, there are no pearls and diamonds. Salvatore's Legacy, on the other hand, presents only the finest ingredients without any "surprises" of goldsmithing. It is perhaps the most expensive in Europe but, between vintage cocktails and excesses of luxury, it is not the only one to cost this amount also because it recently stole the throne from the Sazerac of the Savoy in London ($6,716.56 USD).

The cost of Salvatore's Legacy is based on the sum of the purchase values of the mother bottles. A cocktail created in 2012 that was intended to be made at school. To recreate this marvel of mixology, you start with a 1770 Kümmel (a spirit obtained from alcohol flavored with caraway seeds and fennel), followed by the Clos de Griffier (1778 Cognac) and an 1860 Dubb Orange Curaçao. All these ingredients combined with two drops of Angostura  from the early 1900s make the most expensive drink ever. The main problem with this is the difficulty of opening bottles that are over 200 years old, but the expert bartenders at The Donovan explain that to do so, you have to keep your hand absolutely still.

All these bottles come from Calabrese's personal collection that began to grow as soon as he moved to London at the age of 20. Always passionate about cognac, his knowledge of this French spirit led him to buy and collect the most valuable bottles in the world. A destination for many enthusiasts in the field, in the aforementioned bar there are only a few who can afford to taste the creations of the Italian barman.

What Are the Other "Luxury" Cocktails?

When we say gambling with luxury we are referring to the most expensive cocktails ever. If in Europe they set a precedent with history where for drinks like Calabrese's bottles with an chronological age of over two hundred years are used, here in the U.S. and in Japan they had to use real diamonds to surpass the standard of the Italian barman.

Some examples? If we move to Chicago, at the Italian Style Adalina restaurant, we will find a Marrow Martini for the modest sum of 15 thousand dollars. A remake of the classic cocktail to which a mezcal base is added, we find a 150-diamond tennis necklace placed inside the glass. With more hours of flight, the Diamonds are Forever Martini at the Ritz Carlton in Tokyo costs around $21,117.32 USD. As soon as you order this drink, it is poured over a natural diamond. Back in the United States, here at the Wynn's XS Night Club in Las Vegas we will find around twenty people busy serving us the Ono cocktail, cognac for over 2000 dollars, champagne and a gold necklace, pearls, diamonds and the men's cufflinks attached for a total of 10 thousand dollars.
