What do you do when you have a craving for fresh bready buns, but you don’t have an oven? We have just the recipe for you! These Homemade buns without oven are quick and easy to make. Simply mix dry and wet ingredients, form circles, fill, seal, and cook in a pan. Now you can satisfy your sweet tooth and you don’t even need an oven! The recipe doesn’t make use of yeast, but only needs baking powder. They’re cooked in the pan (which makes them crispy), but they’re also soft and fluffy on the inside. The hazelnut cream and powdered icing sugar just adds enough sweetness!
Mix the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder) in a mixing bowl. Add the water and the oil and mix with a spatula. Massage the dough with your hands for a couple of minutes and flatten with a roller. Use a large cookie cutter to get medium-sized discs. Smear water on the edge of each disc (this will be to seal the discs). Add some hazelnut cream (like Nutella) to the center of each disc and place another disc on top. Close the edges well and cook over low heat. Flip to cook on both sides. Sprinkle with icing sugar to serve.
– Don’t overmix the batter, this will remove all the air from the batter and your sweet buns won’t be as soft.
– Experiment with different fillings: jam, custard, or lemon curd will all work well.
– You can also top the sweet buns with crushed nuts.
The uncooked buns can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months. Place all the sealed sweet buns on a baking sheet and place on a baking sheet. Place in the freezer until they’re frozen. Then transfer to an airtight freezer-safe bag or container.
First mix your dry ingredients. In a medium mixing bowl, add flour, sugar, and baking powder.
Add the water and oil.
Use your hands to mix the wet and dry ingredients together until a dough forms.
Knead the dough for a few minutes and then roll it out. Use a cookie cutter to get medium-sized circles.
Smear water on the edge of each disc, this will be where the two discs seal together. Add some hazelnut cream to the center of each disc and place another disc on top.
Add another disc on top of that one.
Seal the edges well (use a fork if necessary).
Add to a pan over medium heat.
Cover and cook until browned.
Carefully flip them over and cook the other side. Both sides should be browned and the buns should be cooked through.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.
– If you want, you can also bake these Sweet Buns in the oven at 365°F (180°C) for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
– Don’t make the pan too hot. Otherwise, the outside of the savory pancakes will burn while the cheese hasn’t warmed enough to melt yet. Keep it on medium heat.
