Saltine cracker toffee are bitter sweet crunchy cracker bites are so yummy and super fun to prepare! I enjoy it as my bed time dessert and my kid as his “good deed treat”.
Even though it takes barely a few minutes to prepare these tasty treats, I have found a cheat to minimize its usage and maximize the “stay on shelf time”…just break it in to tiny bite size bits and they will stay up on the kitchen counter for a couple of days more than the usual!
You may also switch the brown sugar with regular white one and dark chocolate with milk or white chocolate, if you are not a big fan of bitter and deep intense flavors.
Any which way, you can never have enough of these delicious treats that are so simple to prepare that even your little ones can dish out these in a jiffy!
This very creative way to enjoy regular crackers is a quick trick/cheat to serve a rather impressive dessert table! How? Just bake a few of these super simple treats and serve up on a beautiful platter with creamy ice cream tub, a few chopped nuts, fresh chopped fruits, a few fruity sauces and spreads, gooey chocolate sauce and voila you are party ready!!
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C and line a large baking tray or a cookie sheet with aluminum foil or grease proof paper. Arrange the crackers of your choice evenly in a single layer over the lined baking tray without any gap between the adjacent crackers. Set aside. In a small pan, add the unsalted butter with brown sugar and boil it together for 2 to 3 minutes or until it turns caramel in color. Immediately pour this caramel evenly over the lined crackers and then transfer the baking dish in to the preheated oven. Bake the crackers for about 2 to 3 minutes or until bubble starts to form over the crackers.

If in case you are not too sure, you may melt the chocolate in the microwave first and then pour the molten chocolate over the oven baked caramel coated crackers. This will also save your cooking time. You may replace the almonds with any other nut of your choice such as walnuts, pecans, pistachios etc.
