If you want to make it ahead of time, you can make the dough, allow it to rise, and assemble the pizza roll ups. Bake when you’re ready to serve.
To make your own homemade pizza sauce, cook together: 1 can chopped tomato, 1 tbsp olive oil, 2 crushed garlic cloves, 2 tbsp tomato paste, 3 tbsp fresh basil, 2 tsp dried oregano (or 2 tbsp fresh oregano), salt and pepper to taste. If the sauce is a bit too acidic to your taste, you can add a tsp of sugar.
These easy pizza roll ups are made without meat, but feel free to add it if you prefer: pepperoni, ham, cooked bacon, or crumbled Italian sausage will all work.
Add more mozzarella cheese (or any other pizza cheese blend) if you like your pizzas very cheesy.
Other delicious additions include olives, bell peppers, pineapple, sliced mushrooms, smoked chicken, basil pesto, sundried tomato, and fresh herbs.
Short on time? You can also use store-bought pizza dough, tortillas, or bread. Reduce the cooking time if you’re using bread or tortillas.
Store the leftover pizza roll ups in an airtight container (in the fridge) for up to 3 days. Reheat them in the Airfryer (to maintain crispiness) for 2 minutes at 350°F. You can also warm them in the microwave for 30 seconds. Just note they won’t be as crispy!
