Ingredients

Eggs
2
Sugar
40 g
Honey
1 tbsp
Vanilla Extract
1/2 tsp
Flour
90 g
Baking powder
1 tsp
Water
10 ml
Nutella or hazelnut cream

If you’re looking for a quick and easy dessert that can double up as breakfast, this Nutella Dorayaki is for you! They are stuffed pancakes made famous by the Doraemon anime show. Traditional Dorayaki is made with a sweet azuki red bean filling and is a popular wagashi (or Japanese snack). This recipe makes use of a sweet Nutella filling instead of using red beans.

The texture is fluffy and soft while the filling is rich and sweet. To make it, you simply need to whip up a batch of honey pancakes, add the Nutella filling in between the sandwiched pancakes, and enjoy—as easy as that! Nutella Dorayaki can be enjoyed as breakfast, dessert, or just as a snack!

Chocolate Dorayaki Ingredients

Eggs, baking powder – the eggs and baking powder makes the pancakes light and fluffy.

Honey – adds a unique flavor to the dorayaki pancakes

Hazelnut cream – instead of using azuki red beans like traditional dorayaki pancakes, we use a sweet Nutella filling.

How to make Nutella Dorayaki

First, whisk together the wet ingredients until smooth. Add the dry pancake ingredients and gently whisk until just combined. Don’t over whisk, otherwise the pancakes will end up too dense. Pour a small about of the pancake batter into a non-stick pan over medium heat. Once bubbles appear, the pancakes are ready to flip. Carefully flip and cook the other side until the pancakes are cooked through.

Once the pancakes are all cooked, add a dollop of Nutella hazelnut cream to the center of the pancake and top with another pancake. Gently press the two pancakes together to form a sandwich, slice in half, and serve.

Dorayaki Filling Ideas

Some filling ideas you can try to make dorayaki are red bean pastes, homemade custard, chestnuts (Kuri), matcha cream, or cream with fruits.

How to store Nutella Dorayaki

Store the freshly made Nutella Dorayaki in a cool, dry place, either in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic wrap. You can also store them in the fridge for up to 4 days and serve them straight out of the fridge, in fact, some say it’s best served cold!

Can I freeze Dorayaki Pancakes?

The Chocolate Dorayaki can be stored (tightly wrapped with plastic wrap) in the freezer for up to 1 month.
