Man Discovers Caterpillars In Broccoli He Bought From A Grocery Store And He Keeps Them

It is not particularly savory to find wrinkly critters in food products after a trip to the grocery store. However, that is not the case for this man who recently went viral when he chose to keep caterpillars he found in his broccoli as pets! He even proudly documented the beautiful journey of the caterpillars' metamorphosis on his social media.

Sam Darlaston went on a shopping trip at his local Tesco store with no idea that he was going to earn himself a surprise pet. On getting back home, Darlaston made to clean broccolis from the store when he discovered caterpillars inside!

However, unlike the normal reaction — which would have been to shrink in horror! — Darlaston warmly accepted the bugs as new pets. Via Twitter, he wrote:

"Hey @Tesco I was about to cook my favourite vegetable of all time (broccoli), and after unwrapping it, to my surprise, found caterpillars inside! They're really nice, and we've ended up keeping one as a pet and naming him. but just as a heads up, some of your broc has c-pillars."

Amazingly, Darlaston revisited the store later that day for more broccoli, and almost as expected, he discovered MORE caterpillars! There were five caterpillars in that second batch of broccoli, and his roommate found yet another when he went to prepare dinner.

This made a total of seven caterpillars, but Darlaston couldn't be more excited! He and his friend then went on to name each of the caterpillars.

Gradually, they chronicled the growth of the caterpillars before they eventually released them back to nature. Darlaston's story has since become famous because, albeit unusual, it is a heartwarming story of growth and his love for nature.

Many have come forward to defend the Tesco store, saying that the caterpillars are evidence that the broccolis were organically produced.

Well, cool story, but now you know to always do a thorough search when cleaning your groceries!
