  • Be sure to beat the egg whites and sugar until stiff peaks form for the best royal icing consistency.
  • Don’t skip the fridge time. Allowing the house pieces to set in the fridge ensures stability and a strong structure.
  • When assembling the house, be patient. Apply the icing generously but carefully to avoid any accidental slippage.
  • You can use anything from edible glitter to sprinkles, candy canes, or even mini marshmallows to give the house a Christmas sparkle.
  • Assemble the walls first, then the roof, so you have time to adjust the pieces if necessary.

Ingredients

Egg whites
2
Juice of lemon
1
Powdered sugar
440g (4 cups)
Ladyfingers
350g (40 pieces)

How to Make the Ladyfingers House

Step 1. Add the egg whites and lemon juice to a bowl, then beat with an electric mixer. Gradually add the powdered sugar, continuing to beat with the mixer, to avoid the formation of lumps.

Step 2. Create two towers of your house by combining 5 ladyfingers each for the side walls. Use royal icing to hold them together and refrigerate for 20 minutes to set.

Step 3. Make two additional towers of 8 ladyfingers each for the front and back of the house. Set them in the fridge for 20 minutes.

Step 4. Arrange 6 ladyfingers sideways for one part of the roof. Repeat for the other part, then refrigerate for 20 minutes.

Step 5. Cut out a door from one of the 8-ladyfinger towers and shape a triangle for the roof on both 8-ladyfinger towers.

Step 6. Start assembling the house by using royal icing to glue the walls together.

Step 7. Add the two roof parts and unite them with two other ladyfingers.
