Using your microwave to cook pasta is a great hack, especially if you are keen to lower your energy usage. It can also save you time. Pasta requires around the same amount of time to cook in the microwave as it does on the hob, but you don't have to wait for the water to boil in the pan.

Things you need for a pasta serving that serves 1, takes two minutes to prepare and 10 mins to cook:
1st step: Tip the pasta into a microwave-safe bowl and add some salt. Ensure the bowl is large, as the pasta will expand and bubble up as it cooks. Pour around 400ml boiling water over the top making sure the pasta is completely covered.
2nd step: Microwave on high for 4-5 mins, then give it a good stir so it doesn’t stick. Return to the microwave and heat on high for 2 mins intervals, while stirring. It should take around 9-10 mins for al dente pasta. Drain well and add your favourite sauce to serve.
It takes around 9-10 mins to cook pasta. It is best to cook it on high for 5 mins, then continue to cook and check every minute to ensure it doesn’t stick or overcook. If you use water straight from the tap rather than boiled, it will take around 11-12 mins to cook for al dente pasta.
Enjoy!
