How to Clean Inside a Glass Oven Door by Removing the Glass

Make sure the oven is cool, then remove the glass from the oven door. To do this, open the door, and rest it on your leg for support as you unscrew along the top of the door. Your legs will keep the glass safe in case it falls off.

After that, remove the glass and use a vacuum hose.

Once the glass is removed, you will get access to the in-between layers of your oven, which is often filled with crumbs and dust. Experts suggest using a vacuum hose in the empty space.

How to Remove an Oven Door

For some oven models, the entire door may need to be removed in order to clean in between the two panes of glass. Consult your oven's manual before you get started.

  • Find someone to help you slide the door off. Ask someone to help you hold the door, while you unlock the hinges that connect the door to the oven. Holding the door at about a 75-degree angle, you and a helper can slide the door up and away from the oven.
  • Place the door on a sturdy surface, like a countertop protected by an old towel.
  • Use a yardstick to scrub away grime. Wrap a yardstick in a barely damp cleaning cloth, then secure it with rubber bands. Insert this between the two layers of glass and use it to scrub away any stains or grease.
  • Wrap the yardstick with a dry, lint-free cloth and repeat step three to dry in between the glass. Once the door is completely dry, reattach it, following the instructions provided in the appliance manual.

How to Clean a Glass Oven Door Without Removing It

While it is more efficient to remove the glass door from your oven before cleaning it, there are times when that can’t be done. In such cases, here's what to do.

  • Make sure the door is cool.
  • Create a thick paste using baking soda mixed with water.
  • Spread it on the glass using a sponge, rag, or even your hands.
  • Let the paste sit for 15 to 20 minutes, depending on how dirty the glass is. If needed, you can let it sit up overnight. The mixture will darken as it absorbs the dirt, grime, and grease.
  • When you're ready, remove the paste with a warm, wet rag.
  • Try oven glass cleaner.

Good luck!
