Surprisingly, grilled and marinated shrimps has many takers as it is quite healthy, uses good quality of fats, and fresh herbs to make these tiny crustaceans significantly flavorful and delicious. Just be cautious to devein the shrimps correctly and check each shrimp for the vein removal even when buying good quality packaged shrimps.
In a medium size jar or a Ziploc pouch add the olive oil, fresh lime juice, minced garlic, balsamic vinegar, fresh chopped cilantro, honey, close the jar lid, and shake everything well. Add the deveined shrimps, salt, and black pepper powder to the jar, close the jar lid or seal the bag and shake to mix everything well again.
Now, let the jar or bag refrigerate for about an hour. Remove the marinating shrimps from the refrigerator and thaw it for about 10 minutes, if required.
Skew the shrimps on to a skewer and grill them on to a preheated grill or broil them on high in a preheated oven for about 10 minutes. Flip the shrimps and cook the other side as well until the shrimps are cooked. Serve hot and enjoy!
It depends on the marinade. If it's acidic (lemon, lime, orange, etc.), 30 minutes are enough. During this time, the acid will begin to break down the delicate shrimp meat and make it doughy.
You can marinate frozen shrimps: Thaw the shrimp in the refrigerator overnight or, for a quick defrost method, place the frozen shrimp in a colander and run them under cold water until they are thawed (this will only take a few minutes).
Marinate shrimps in the marinating liquid for the minimum duration of an hour or overnight. Handle the shrimps gently, particularly while shaking with the marinade and skewing on to the skewer. You have to be extra vigilant of the timings when cooking shrimps as they cook very fast. You may alternately also grill the shrimps on to a non-stick pan if the traditional griller is not available.
