Fried Sweet Ravioli (also called ravioli dolci in Italian) are an easy Italian dessert recipe made of ravioli stuffed with custard. They look like typical square savory ravioli, but once you bite into it, you will find a sweet custard filling. Because the ravioli is fried, it’s crispy on the outside, balanced with the creaminess on the inside.

If you’re looking for an Italian-inspired dessert, why not try Sweet Fried Ravioli. You’ll love the balance of crispy and creamy. This recipe is also truly homemade, with homemade custard, and homemade pasta. Definitely something that will impress your guests! Go on, try it today!

Sweet Ravioli Filling Ideas

There are many ways to fill sweet ravioli, instead of just using custard. Try any of the following:

  • Nutella (try pairing Nutella with banana)
  • Dark Chocolate (great when paired with strawberries)
  • Lemon curd
  • Fruit puree (try a berry fruit puree mixed with cream cheese)
  • Ricotta and chocolate

Tips

Make sure to use an oil suitable for frying. Use canola, peanut, sunflower, or corn oil. To reuse the oil, allow it to cool, and strain it. You can reuse it a few times for more fried ravioli.

Don’t make your oil too hot; use a thermometer to heat the oil to about 350°F.

Instead of sprinkling the ravioli with powdered sugar, you can drizzle it with melted chocolate, and then give it a sprinkle of crushed nuts.

Make sure to drain the fried ravioli on towel paper before dusting with powdered sugar.

How To Store Fried Sweet Ravioli

Before serving you can keep ravioli in a warm oven. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven to warm them up and keep them crispy.

You can also freeze ravioli. Place the fried (and cooled) ravioli on a baking sheet. Place in the freezer for a few hours. Transfer to a Ziploc bag and freeze for up to 3 months.

All-purpose flour
300 g
salt
a pinch
Sugar
40 g (3 1/4 tbsp)
Egg
1
Baking powder
1 tsp
Lemon zest
Vegetable Oil
40 ml (3 tbsp)
Milk
70 ml (1/3 cup)
custard
150 g (1 cup)

How To Make Fried Sweet Ravioli

Whisk flour with salt and baking powder.

Whisk eggs with sugar, vegetable oil, zest, and milk.

Pour liquids into the dry mixture and knead until smooth dough forms. Cover and let sit in the fridge for 30 minutes.

Roll out pieces of dough thinly, pipe custard on top of one sheet, and cover with another.

Cut, forming the ravioli.

Fry the sweet ravioli in preheated oil for 3-4 minutes. Sprinkle it with powdered sugar.

Notes

Instead of cooking the custard on the stove, you can make it in the microwave and blend the mixture with a stick blender.
