Between the bird flu emergency and Trump's tariffs, the Norwegian A-List's decision to give cartons of eggs to the best player on the pitch after a match has gone viral on the web, causing no small amount of hilarity.
"Well done Jan, despite the defeat, you were the best today. This is a tribute to you, congratulations!". It must have been exactly like this when, at the end of the match, Jan De Boer received some egg cartons after being elected best on the pitch. A Dutch goalkeeper born in 2000, de Boer has not yet entered the history of football for his skills between the posts, but this singular episode that happened during the last championship weekend has gone viral on the web.
A story that needs to be contextualized: we are in Bryne, a town in the southwest of Norway and at the stadium there is a match between the home team and Bodø/Glimt. The match ends with a defeat for Bryne but, despite everything, the elected best on the field is none other than De Boer, goalkeeper of the home team who, at the end of the match, was rewarded with 48 eggs.
But why wasn't he awarded a small trophy or pennant like it happens in normal A-List? Basically in the Norwegian championship they don't usually give eggs after a football match but it happened because Bryne has roots in an agricultural region. This is considered the most important in all of Norway so much so that the fans usually sing, during the matches, that they are proud to be farmers. Another ingenious idea of the Byrne club is to sell VIP tickets that allow fans to watch the matches from a tractor parked on the edge of the pitch.
Given the bird flu emergency that has hit the United States in recent weeks , there are many who would like to be "lucky" like de Boer. In essence, they are forced to cull many infected hens here and the production of eggs and poultry is seriously scarce. With the tariff issue brought forward by Donald Trump and that has hit most countries, importing eggs into the US will not be cheap. Wanting to be ironic, at this point, the Bryne company could reach an agreement with the American government and send them cartons of eggs too.
