We love combination desserts. It’s the best way to have two of your favorite desserts in one bite. This Churro Cheesecake is the perfect combination of two amazing desserts—churros and cheesecake. Why is this a match made in heaven? Because the cinnamon flakiness you’d expect from churros is incorporated into the creaminess of the cheesecake. What’s not to love! Better yet, this is an easy recipe.
Unlike traditional cheesecake, which requires skill and patience, this dessert is served as Churro Cheesecake Bars, which means you can easily make it in a square baking tin. This will be the Best Churro Cheesecake you’ve ever had. Every bite is melt-in-the-mouth delicious!
Cream Cheese – use full-fat or low fat (we don’t recommend fat-free)
Egg – the act will act as a binder and make the filling set
Sugar – granulated sugar will work fine
Sweet pastry dough – use puff pastry or store-bought crescent dough.
There are only a few (easy) components to this dish. First, mix the cinnamon and sugar and set them aside. Make the cream cheese filling by beating the cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Layer the sweet pastry dough (we used store-bought pastry dough) in a square baking dish. Add the filling and spread it all over the pastry dough. Place the second pastry layer on top and sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar you made. Bake until crispy and golden.
If you like it sweeter, you can drizzle the bars with chocolate sauce, condensed milk, or lechera.
Oreo: Add crushed Oreos to the cream cheese filling, and omit the cinnamon sugar. Instead, add cocoa mixed with sugar.
Strawberry: Add a layer of chopped strawberries on top of the cream cheese filling (or you can use strawberry preserves). Omit the cinnamon in the sugar sprinkle.
Spicy: If you like warm spicy flavors, add nutmeg to the cinnamon sugar. If you’re in a pinch you can also use puff pastry!
No-bake: Omit the pastry, and use cookies soaked in coffee. Whip cream cheese with mascarpone and use it as a filling. Leave in the fridge for 4 hours before serving.
The Churro Cheesecake Bars can be stored in the fridge, and also be served directly out of the fridge (cold) or at room temperature. To prevent the pastry from drying out, keep the bars in an airtight container.
Mix the cream cheese with sugar and 1 egg.
Add vanilla extract and mix again.
Place sweet pastry in a square tray.
Place the cream cheese mixture on top and spread well. Place another sheet of pastry on top.
Mix sugar with cinnamon and sprinkle on top of the pastry.
Bake for 35 minutes at 175ºC (350ºC). Slice the cheesecake into 9 squares.
Serve the Churro Cheesecake Bars with whipped cream or your favorite ice cream.
