If you’re looking for a quick, tasty treat, these Chocolate Scones might just be it! This easy recipe is somewhere between sweet scones and a chocolate brownie—it’s delicious! They also make great snacks for school and work lunches. The flavor is rich in chocolate (chocolate is added in three different ways), the texture is dense, but moist. To make it you need typical pantry ingredients  like flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar, with a few special items like cinnamon and dark chocolate melts. Serve them plain as you would a brownie, or add a dollop of cream or scoop of ice cream!

What Is a Scone?

Scones are lightly sweetened baked treats, every similar to the American biscuit. In American cuisine however, they’re often eaten with a savory lunch or dinner, while in Britain, scones are enjoyed with cream and jam during tea time.

These Chocolate Scones are a twist on those classic British afternoon tea treats. Why? Because everything is better with chocolate!

How to make Chocolate Scones

Chocolate Scones (and scones in general) are super easy to make. First all the dry ingredients are mixed together. Then, the wet ingredients are mixed together and added to the dry ingredients to form a dough. The dough is pressed into a springform cake tin, to create a round shape. It’s then taken out of the springform cake pan, and sliced into “cake slices”.

Pro Tips

– You can pulse the dry ingredients and butter in a food processor until it resembles breadcrumbs.

– These Chocolate Scones are the triple chocolate version. To make a double version, you can leave out the chocolate chips.

– It’s important to use cold butter, as this will give you light and fluffy scones. If your butter is too warm, place the cubes in the freezer for a few minutes to cool.

Don’t over knead the dough, this will prevent hard scones and make them fluffy. You can use a food processor to mix the ingredients by gently pulsing until a dough forms.
