Ice – make your own ice cubes at home and use them for this recipe.
Prepare the bananas by peeling them and cutting them into slices. Add them to the blender, together with the ice and cocoa powder. Blend the mixture by pulsing until it’s smooth, homogenous, and resembles a thick milkshake.

For a thinner, more liquid smoothie, add any of the following liquids: almond milk, dairy milk, water.
Want to increase the protein? Add protein powder, almonds, Greek yogurt, or any other nut butter.
If the smoothie is not sweet enough, you can add 3-4 dates and blend it together with the other ingredients until fine. You can also add a drizzle of honey.
Prep ahead and always be ready for breakfast, by keeping the bananas in the freezer (this also skips the refrigeration step). Peel the bananas and slice them. Transfer the slices to a Ziploc bag and freeze. Take out as much as you need when making a smoothie and store the rest in the freezer.
Give it more flavor by adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
If you’re serving this smoothie as a dessert, make it resemble a milkshake by adding a dollop of fresh whipped cream on top.
You can store your blended smoothie in a jar (with a tight-fitting lid) in the fridge for up to 3 hours.
