3 cl

3 cl
red vermouth

The Boulevardier is a cocktail made of whiskey, bitter Campari and red vermouth and it is a variant of the best known Negroni, which is known for its strong taste and its alcohol by volume which should not be underestimated. Created in France at the end of the 18th century and became famous in America during the years of prohibitionism, the Boulevardier is generally served in an old fashioned glass filled with ice even though there are those who prefer it straight up, that is in the classic cocktail glass without cubes. The bitter taste of Campari balances the sweetness of vermouth and it is this balance which gives space to the intense taste of peat whiskey. More than a cocktail, an experience that goes from taste to smell, thanks to a freshly squeezed orange peel. In short, whether for an aperitif or for a post-meal meditation, the Boulevardier is a cocktail you cannot miss!

How to make Boulevardier

Pour the ice into a mixing glass, pour the whiskey, red vermouth and bitter campari.

Stir for 30 seconds and pour your cocktail into an Old fashioned glass.

Cut the peel of an orange with a sharp knife and garnish your Boulevardier (3).

Tips

– In order to prepare a perfect and well balanced Boulevardier, we suggest you to use a peat whiskey which is known for its taste and aroma recalling the smoky notes used to dry barley grains.

– As an alternative to orange, you can use a cherry soaked in maraschino or a few drops of angostura.

Variations

Boulevardier itself is considered a variant of the most famous Negroni made of gin, vermouth and Campari. If you love strong cocktails with an intense taste, try the Negroni Sbagliato: a much loved cocktail made of sparkling wine, campari and red vermouth; the only thing "wrong" about it is its name, try it to believe it!
