There's an art to making a great-tasting BLT sandwich. This popular American club sandwich gets its name from the starring ingredients: bacon, lettuce, and tomato. These are the basics you'll need, plus some bread, of course.

You can customize your BLT sandwich however you like. This version includes tasty additions like mayo infused with chili powder and paprika, and maple syrup glazed bacon, served on lightly toasted bread. The extra kick from the chili mayonnaise makes this BLT super tasty.

Serve your BLT sandwich with potato chips, fries, sweet potato fries, salad, roasted veggies, or a bowl of your favorite soup.

Tips for Making the Best BLT Sandwich

Don't eat pork? Use turkey bacon. For a vegetarian or vegan option, use a plant-based bacon alternative.

Add extra chili powder for more of a kick.

Sourdough, ciabatta, and whole grain bread also work well for a BLT sandwich.

How to Store a BLT Sandwich

BLT sandwiches taste best when freshly prepared, but you can wrap them in wax paper and keep it in the fridge for up to one day. Any longer and the lettuce will wilt and the bread will become soggy.

Ingredients

Maple syrup
2 tbsp
packed brown sugar
2 tbsp
Cayenne
a pinch
thick-cut bacon
1 pound
Mayonnaise
1/4 cup
Chili powder
1 tsp
Sweet paprika
1/4 tsp
salt and pepper to taste
white bread, lightly toasted
4 slices
Lettuce
4 leaves
vine-ripened tomatoes
4 quarter-inch thick slices

How to Make a BLT Sandwich

Preheat your oven to 400F.

Combine maple syrup, brown sugar, and cayenne in a bowl.

Line a baking dish with foil. Arrange a wire rack over the baking dish. Place the bacon on the wire rack in a single layer. Bake for 15 minutes, then rotate the baking dish. Cook for another 15 minutes, then remove the bacon from the oven.

Set your oven to broil. Brush both sides of the bacon with the maple mixture and broil for 2 to 3 minutes until the maple mixture thickens. Remove from the oven and set on a plate.

Combine mayo, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a bowl.

Spread the mayo onto two slices of bread.

Layer lettuce, and tomato on each side.

Add bacon.

Top the bacon with the remaining bread, and serve.
