Just the name of this cakes automatically makes me want a slice! Black magic cake is a super chocolatey, dense and moist cake that is every chocolate lovers dream. The cake batter is made with buttermilk which gives the cake a subtle tang. Coffee is also added to the batter which really brings out the chocolate flavor while also adding moisture to the cake itself. Any type of chocolate frosting will work wonderfully on this cake.

  • Add the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt to the bowl of a stand mixer. Blend together using a paddle attachment.
  • Add the eggs and coffee to the dry ingredients and mix to a smooth batter. Scrape down the sides of the bowl when needed.
  • Add the buttermilk, oil and vanilla slowly to the batter while the mixer is on. Adding the liquids slowly will help prevent any lumps from forming.
  • Great two eight inch cake pans.
  • Divide the batter between the pans. The batter should be about 3/4 of the way up the sides of the pan. Don't worry if the batter seems a little runny- it should be!!
  • Bake for 45-55 minutes in a 350 ̊F oven or until the center of the cake springs back to the touch. Cool the cakes then ice with your favorite dark chocolate frosting.

Tips

-This batter also makes fantastic cupcakes- black magic cupcakes sound like something you could definitely eat in one bite!
-Chocolate cream cheese frosting is a great one to use as the tangy cream cheese compliments the rich chocolate cake perfectly.
