In just about every country there is some sort of stay-at-home order in place. Some countries are in complete lockdown, meaning that you are only allowed to leave your house to buy the absolute essentials. With this type of home confinement in place, many people have rediscovered the joys of family game night. But what is game night without some delicious snacks? These snack ideas are not only tasty to eat, they’re easy to make too!
Banana chips make a tasty sweet treat, and the bonus is that it’s healthy too! To make crispy banana slices, toss the slices in lemon juice (this will prevent browning), place on a baking tray, and bake for 200°F (95°C) for one hour. Flip them over, and bake another hour. Make sure to let them cool completely before you tuck in! This will ensure that they are super crispy!
While we are on the topic of fruit, did you know you can make dried apple slices in the microwave? You will need to slice the apples very thinly, so if you have a mandolin, this will work great! Places the apple slices on parchment paper on a microwave-safe plate, and microwave for 5 minutes. Flip the slices and microwave for a few minutes more, checking every 30 seconds. As with the bananas, make sure to cool them completely, which will result in maximum crispiness.
Speaking of the microwave, did you know you can make potato chips in the microwave? It only takes a few minutes and you use less oil than frying! Simply placed thinly sliced potatoes (or sweet potatoes) on parchment paper on a microwave-safe plate, spray with cooking oil, and microwave for about 5 minutes until golden brown. Toss with seasoning and leave to cool. If you wash your potatoes or sweet potatoes thoroughly, you don’t even need to peel them beforehand!
After you tried all the healthy snacks, it’s time to be a little more indulgent. Let’s have brownies! Want an easy brownie recipe that only needs 3 ingredients? Make Nutella brownies! Simply mix 1 cup of Nutella, 2 eggs, and ½ cup flour (you can add up to 2 tablespoons more if the dough is too wet). Bake in a tray lined with parchment paper at bake for about 20 minutes at 350°F (175°C). Easy!
