Churros are delicious, but they can take some time to make. Not these baked churros made with puff pastry! In 15 minutes or less, you will have crunchy churros on your plate.
These Homemade Baked Churros are not only quicker but also healthier than the classic Spanish Churros, which are usually fried. These golden-brown churros are crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, with a delicious and sweet cinnamon flavor.
And unlike the classic churros, you don’t need any special ingredients (not even eggs!)! With puff pastry, cinnamon, sugar, and butter, these churros will be ready in no time—no piping bag necessary! Serve it with a caramel sauce or chocolate sauce, and see guests coming back for more!
Fried churros are usually more crispy. They’re made with dough and the strips are made using a piping bag. Because we use puff pastry instead of dough in this baked recipe, the flakiness adds the right texture. Baked churros are also healthier than their fried counterpart, as it's made with no oil.
Puff Pastry – If you don’t have puff pastry, you can also use biscuit dough, pie crust, and even pizza dough! Phyllo dough won’t work, as it won’t rise in the oven.
Cinnamon Sugar – this adds the well-known “churro flavor”.
Butter – not only does it add flavor, but it also helps the cinnamon sugar to stick.
These Puff Pastry Baked Churros take only 15 minutes to make. First, unroll the puff pastry and slice into 1-inch strips. Place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake for about 8-10 minutes.
After baking, dip the strips into melted butter and cover with cinnamon sugar. Make sure to allow them to dry before serving!
Serve the Baked Churros with your favorite sweet sauce: try caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, homemade Nutella, and even custard!
Instead of a knife, you can also use a pizza cutter.
Make sure to allow the churros to rest for 5 minutes, this will make them crispy!
To make these churros vegan, use vegan puff pastry and substitute the butter with melted coconut oil.
Homemade Baked Churros are best enjoyed immediately, while they’re still warm and crispy. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave (note that it won’t be as crispy and flaky).
