Airfryer fritters are a delicious and slightly healthier alternative to traditional fried donuts. They are light, fluffy, and with a slight crunch on the outside. Made with a few simple ingredients (flour, yeast, butter, sugar, and honey), they are quick and easy to prepare. Cooking them in the Airfryer gives these donuts a crispy exterior while keeping the inside soft and tender. The braided fritters are perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a mid-day snack. With their irresistible aroma and delectable taste, they are sure to be a hit with everyone in your family! You won’t be able to stop at only one!

How To Braid the Fritters

Roll each piece of dough in a thin rope of about 12 inches. (It will work better on a non-floured surface).

There are two ways to twist the dough. The first way is to bend the rope so that both ends face you. Start by bringing the right end over the left, then continue until you get to the end.

The other way might be a bit easier. Roll the two ends of a dough rope in opposite directions. Roll one side of the dough away from you and the other towards you. Now, when you carefully lift the dough, it will automatically twist around itself to form a twisted fritter.

Tips

Make sure not to skip the rising step. Allowing the dough to rise properly will create a light and fluffy fritter, instead of a dense one.

There are many ways to customize this recipe according to your liking. Use vanilla sugar, cocoa sugar, or cinnamon sugar instead of granulated sugar. You can also brush the cooked fritters with melted butter instead of butter.

To create a sugar-cinnamon sprinkle, simply combine ½ cup of granulated sugar with 1 tbsp ground cinnamon. You can even cover it with dried coconut flakes!

The fritters can also be glazed with an icing glaze. Whip up a quick and easy glaze icing by whisking together 2 cups of confectioners’ sugar, 2 tbsp butter, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and up to 4 tsp milk.

For a classic donut shape, roll out the fritter dough to ½ inch thickness, cut the outer circle with a 3-inch cookie cutter, then use a 1-inch cookie cutter for the center. Alternatively, you can use a large drinking glass and a small shot glass.

How to Store Braided Fritters

Store the plain fritters in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Sprinkled or glazed fritters can be stored at room temperature for 1 day or two.
