If you're anything like us, you've probably been going crazy over these new sensation Crumbl Cookies, wondering if you can replicate them at home. The short answer: yes, you can! The long answer? Well, it involves our recipe! Copycat Crumbl Chocolate Chip Cookies are a type of American cookies that are extremely soft and delicious, made with lots of butter and flavored with chocolate chips. They are a variation on the more traditional and widespread cookies, but are larger than traditional ones and very soft on the inside, with a crunchy crust on the outside.

Making them is extremely easy: you need to whip the soft butter with white sugar and brown sugar; once you have obtained a well-whipped mixture, just add eggs, flour, cornstarch, baking soda, salt and lots of dark chocolate chips. With the mixture obtained you will then need to form balls, to be placed well spaced on the baking tray, covered with baking paper: the biscuits will have to cook in the oven for about 20 minutes.

What Are Crumbl Cookies?

Crumbl Cookies is a popular American cookie brand known for its oversized, gourmet cookies and rotating weekly menu of unique flavors. Founded in 2017 by cousins Jason McGowan and Sawyer Hemsley in Logan, Utah, Crumbl quickly gained fame through its innovative use of social media, particularly TikTok and Instagram, where their visually appealing cookies and in-store baking process were shared by fans. The brand’s cookies are typically made from scratch daily, with high-quality ingredients and a signature soft, gooey texture. Crumbl offers a variety of flavors each week, with classic favorites like chocolate chip often staying on the menu, while other flavors—ranging from sugar cookies with unique frostings to more creative options like Oreo or Funfetti—rotate.

Tips for The Best Crumbl Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Ensure the butter and eggs are at room temperature before starting. This helps create a smoother dough and better consistency.
  • Beat the butter and sugar for the full 5 minutes to incorporate air, which leads to lighter, fluffier cookies.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, because it helps the dough stay smooth and evenly mixed, preventing any lumps.
  • For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking to prevent spreading.
  • To ensure uniform size and even baking, weigh each dough ball to be around 110g.
  • Taking out the tray halfway to adjust the cookie shape with a cup or cookie cutter helps control spreading, giving you round, even cookies.
  • Bake just until the edges are set and the center looks slightly underbaked. This ensures soft, gooey centers once cooled.
  • Use parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking and promote even baking.

Can I Add Something Else to The Cookies?

You can customize the cookies as you prefer! Chopped nuts like walnuts, pecans, or almonds provide a satisfying crunch, while dried fruits such as cranberries, raisins, or cherries add a sweet, chewy bite. For those with a sweet tooth, candy pieces like M&Ms or chopped Snickers can introduce extra bursts of flavor. White or dark chocolate chunks offer a rich contrast to traditional chocolate chips, while toffee bits bring a buttery, caramel-like crunch. For a more unique twist, shredded coconut can add a hint of tropical flavor, and pretzels offer the perfect sweet-salty balance, making each bite even more irresistible.

Can I Skip The Cornstarch?

While cornstarch can be skipped, it plays an important role in making cookies softer and more tender by reducing gluten formation. Without it, the cookies may still turn out fine but will likely be a bit less soft and chewy.

Can I Make The Crumbl Chocolate Chip Cookies Starting With Cookie Mix?

If you're in a pinch, then sure! However, to achieve the same texture and flavor as homemade cookies, you may need to adjust or enhance the mix. Adding fresh ingredients like butter, eggs, and chocolate chips, as well as incorporating extras like cornstarch for tenderness or customizing with different add-ins, will be necessary, in order to obtain a result that's closer to the original!

Can I Make The Cookies Smaller?

Yes, you can make the cookies smaller by reducing the size of the dough balls. Just adjust the baking time accordingly, reducing it by a few minutes, as smaller cookies will bake faster. Keep an eye on them to avoid overbaking, ensuring they still have a soft center.

Help! Why Didn't My Cookies Spread?

If the cookies didn’t spread, it could be due to the dough being too cold or having too much flour, both of which prevent spreading. Overmixing the dough can also lead to denser cookies. To encourage spreading, let the dough warm up slightly before baking, or reduce the amount of flour used.

SOS! Why Are the Cookies so Dry and Crumbly?

Dry and crumbly cookies are often the result of overbaking, using too much flour, or not enough fat, such as butter. Overmixing the dough can also lead to a tougher texture.

Can I Make Crumbl Chocolate Chip Cookies Ahead of Time?

Yes, of course! You can prepare the dough and store it in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days before baking.

Can I Freeze Crumbl Chocolate Chip Cookies?

Absolutely! You can freeze the dough balls for up to 3 months and bake them directly from frozen when needed, just adding a couple of extra minutes to the baking time.
